The Health Lottery draw for 28th June 2014 is for the purpose of raising funds for different health related charities in the area of Cumbria. Cumbria is one of 51 different areas in the United Kingdom that is selected to receive funds to help causes that benefit health. These different areas are rotated so that with every game a different area receives the funds. To encourage people to play The Health Lottery there is a jackpot of up to £100,000. As an added incentive players who get their tickets using the Coral bookmaker have an opportunity to win an additional £1 million, on top of the original jackpot.
The Health Lottery is comprised of up to 51 different society charities representing a specific area of England, Scotland and Wales. Each game is for the purpose of raising money for a selected charity society and this organization will devote the funds to health related causes on the local level. The National Lottery’s Managing Director has accused the managing body of the Health Lottery of withholding 50p of every £1 paid for tickets as “expenses”. This is an exorbitant amount of money when you compare it to the National Lottery’s expenses, which are only 5p for each £1 paid for tickets.
The Health Lottery has actually only pledged to contribute the minimum amount of the proceeds allowed by law, but even so there have been some very important health related projects funded through the lottery. It has just recently reached £50 million donated and there was a celebration of this milestone. At the same time it was noted that the total sales of lottery tickets had dropped dramatically due to a 10% drop in retailers selling the tickets.
Over £240,000 in funds has been donated to the HealthBright society charity via The Health Lottery and this figure does not include the funds from tonight’s game. The projects and organisations that have received the funds include:
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Birmingham Sports and Education Foundation
- School Food Trust
- Three Trees Community Centre
The proceeds from this past Wednesday’s draw were donated to HealthBright and tonight’s draw will add to those funds and be the last fundraiser for HealthBright until it comes up in the rotation next time. Next Wednesday’s draw will contribute funds to another society in a different region of the UK.
In order to find out the winners of tonight’s Health Lottery draw please turn on Channel 5 at around 21:55 and the draw will be conducted the first commercial break nearest this time. If there’s a sporting event or another urgent show, The Health Lottery draw’s time does change. In order to avoid missing the action you can always go to the Health Lottery Results web page. The draw takes place on live TV and there’s usually a host, which rotates. In the past the hosts have been Anne Diamond, Sian Welby and Natalie Cassidy. They are rotated and usually appear with Sian Welby who is actually a Channel 5 employee as the resident host.
The Health Lottery will return next Wednesday, July 3rd, but it may have a smaller jackpot as ticket sales are usually lower during the week, so since the amount of the jackpot is based on ticket sales it may not reach the maximum amount of £100,000. To all players who have tickets in tonight’s Health Lottery draw, the WagerPod team would like to wish you the best of luck.
